Last week, my family and I took our annual trip to Linvilla Orchards [ www.linvilla.com] to pick our delicious, organic apples. We picked huge apples, regular size apples, and small apples. Regardless of the ‘DO NOT EAT APPLES’ sign, our 2-year old couldn’t resist the delicious apples growing around him. He was able to reach in the tree and grab as many as his little heart desired. As a matter of fact, little Roman scarfed down four apples before we stopped him. I mean really, apples are pure fiber and fiber makes you p–…well you get the point. Unfortunately, he had too many and daddy and I were avoiding those diapers like the plague.
Ok back to the apples, there were Red Delicious apples, Golden Delicious, Ida Red, Stayman, Aztec Fuji, and Mutsu apples. There’s something about picking your own apples. I guess you develop a sense of oneness with nature, and an appreciation for the seeds following their natural instructions by producing apples for us to enjoy. I totally suggest that you and your family get to picking.
We picked a box full of apples, approximately 30lbs., and we are still enjoying them. My family doesn’t know what to expect next; I’ve made apple turnovers, apple scones, applesauce, apples and sweet potatoes, apple oatmeal, apple chips, chicken and apples, and apples with wine 😉 …what mom wouldn’t love that! Believe it or not, we still have apples left. So I’ll find something new to make. Boy, I can’t wait until berry picking season. Who knows? Maybe my niece will stay awake this time!
