The Only Child Syndrome & The Yummy Screwdriver

Hello love,

So I hope all is well with you. If you haven’t checked out Episode 1 of Mommy’s Mixes & Mocktails with Qui and Bri, then I’d strongly suggest doing that now. We discussed the only child syndrome. I totally learned a lot from my co-host, Bri, who grew up as an only child because of the huge age gap between her and her sibling.

Most of what we believed about the “only” child was fairly true because they are loners, who enjoy their space and quiet time. Coincidentally, I enjoy the same things and I am the oldest. I wonder what other birth order parallels we can draw from the only child and the other children. If you are an only child or you have an only child, tell us which of the attributes fit the “Only Child” personality.

The Only Child Personality

  • High Confidence and Self-Esteem
  • Sense of Privacy
  • Higher Academic Achievement
  • Independent
  • More Organized
  • Selfish
  • Social

Parenting an Only Child

I have other sibling, so I wouldn’t consider myself an expert on raising only children. The closest I got to raising an only child was the 24 months of raising my first born. I’m not entirely sure of how great I was, but now that I’m on #5, I’m sure that I am getting this parenting thing together. Not to mention, I celebrate small wins so that I feel like a supermom everyday. Yay! My kids ate today or Yay! Nobody went to the hospital. Yeah, I get excited over things like that and I’m sure that any mother with AAAALLLLLLLL boys would say the same thing. Anyhoozers, if you are raising an only child right now, I’d suggest checking out the tips and strategies that our friends over at New Kids-Center have to say. Phillip Goodman, topic author of New Kids-Center, starts off by advising parents to see your child as an individual and not an extension of us. OMG! That’s so important because how often do parents live vicariously through their children causing the children to resent their parents? It’s a great quick read.

Ok so fast forward, we enjoyed a delicious screwdriver. Yes! I had the mocktail version because I am still breastfeeding twins and I can’t afford to pump and dump this liquid gold. I’m sure that I am not the only mommy in that boat, so I had to make sure that we didn’t miss out on the fun either.

Bri shared a cool fact about the screwdriver. DID YOU KNOW? The screwdriver got it’s name from American oil workers in the Persian Golf who would sneak and pour vodka into their orange juice then stir it with a …. you guessed it….a screwdriver. WOW! How cool is that? So the drink is really easy to make. I listed the recipe below ⬇

The Yummy Screwdriver Recipe

1 1/2 fluid ounces vodka OR 1 cup lemon-lime soda

6 fluid ounces orange juice

1 1/2 cups ice cubes

Ready In

  1. Combine vodka (OR SODA) and orange juice in a highball glass and stir to combine. Add ice. Add a orange slice for garnish
